Wish you could turn back time?

Have you ever looked at your reflection wishing you would have appreciated your youthful skin when you had it? Luckily, Broadband Light Therapy (BBL) is an innovative solution that holds the key to revitalizing and brightening the skin.

With BBL Therapy, we can target persistent skin conditions including fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. VITAHL recommends this treatment for reaching deeper skin layers using intense pulsed light to reveal your skin's underlying beauty.

Why do we need Broadband Light Therapy?

Our skin's natural collagen production plays a crucial role in maintaining its elasticity and youthful texture. However, this production dwindles as we age, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. Combine that with years of sun exposure, and the results are even more pronounced.

Factors like ultraviolet rays, pollution, and even stress expedite the appearance of pigmentation, redness, and uneven skin tone. BBL addresses these challenges, targeting the damaged skin cells and boosting collagen production, paving the way for skin that feels reborn and rejuvenated.

How Broadband Light Therapy works

Broadband Light Therapy (BBL) is a noninvasive treatment that takes the concept of traditional pulsed light treatments to new heights. BBL uses a broad light spectrum, allowing tailored treatments for different skin types and concerns. This customizable light energy gently heats the skin's upper layers. In response, the skin cells begin a regeneration process.

The intense light also targets and eliminates many pigments and vessels responsible for skin discolorations. As a result, the skin's natural healing processes kick in, destroying damaged tissue and stimulating collagen production for firmer, smoother skin.

What Broadband Light Therapy treats

BBL can treat a diverse set of conditions and concerns, including:

  • Age spots

  • Sun damage

  • Fine lines

  • Redness and rosacea

This versatility makes it a favorite among patients and clinicians — one treatment to address a host of needs, often even simultaneously.

Nature of Light

BBL employs a broad light spectrum, allowing the treatment to be tailored to specific skin types and concerns. It uses various wavelengths that penetrate different skin depths, making it versatile for addressing multiple skin conditions in one session.

Lasers use a singular wavelength of focused light, honing in on specific skin issues with precision. The treatment's specificity means that different lasers are designed for other skin concerns.

Treatment Sessions Required

Most individuals require multiple BBL sessions spaced a few weeks apart for optimal results. However, the number of sessions is often fewer than with many laser treatments.

The number of sessions will depend on the specific laser type and the skin concern being treated. Some issues might be resolved in one session, while others require multiple visits.

While both BBL and laser treatments offer promising results in skin rejuvenation, the choice between them should be based on individual needs, the specific concerns to be addressed, and your willingness to have downtime. Both treatments have their merits, and a consultation with a skilled practitioner can guide you to the best option for your skin goals.

Who are good candidates for BBL?

Those displaying visible signs of sun damage, premature aging, and pigmentation could experience a remarkable transformation with BBL. While the therapy can work wonders, it’s essential to have realistic expectations. Every skin is unique, and results can vary based on individual conditions and the extent of damage.

However, individuals with dark skin tones or active tans might require careful consideration, as the treatment could lead to pigmentary changes. Always consult with a professional to assess your specific needs and potential outcomes.

Preparing for Broadband Light Therapy

Preparation is a pivotal step to ensure the efficacy of your BBL session. The better your skin is primed, the more optimal the results.

Condition

Your wrinkles or lines' depth, number, and location will influence the treatment's complexity. More intricate procedures or those covering larger areas might be priced higher.  Keep in mind dosage = duration.  It is better to leave off an area rather than decreasing the overall units.  Decreasing the dosage may save you at the initial appointment, but you will spend more in the long run because treatment will be needed more frequently. Also, more frequent treatments could possibly lead to becoming resistant to treatment.

Sun Expsure

Protect your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF and minimize direct sun exposure. Avoid direct sunlight or tanning products for at least one week before treatment, however, encountering sun does not mean a treatment cannot be performed. We will assess the skin prior to treatment and may adjust treatment settings if needed.

Skin Products

It is ok to remain on all skincare products, including Retinols, as long as the skin is not overly irritated from them.

Cleanse

Arrive with clean skin, without makeup, creams, or lotions. Arrive with clean skin, without makeup, creams, or lotions.

Medications

Discuss any medications you're on, as some can sensitize the skin to light.

What to expect during the BBL procedure

The journey to a luminous complexion through BBL is both efficient and straightforward. Initially, ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area. You might feel a brief warm sensation as the light pulses are delivered to your skin, much like a rubber band snap. Protective eyewear will be provided to shield your eyes. Depending on the treated area's size, the procedure typically wraps up within 20-30 minutes.

Broadband Light Therapy Results

Immediate Post-treatment

The skin will feel warm and often look red. This redness may be mild in some patients but can be more prominent in others. The redness typically dissipates in a few hours.

First 3 days

Darkening of pigmented spots is standard. Don't be alarmed; it's a sign that the treatment is working.

1 week

These darkened spots begin to flake off, revealing clearer skin beneath.

2-3 weeks

Continuous skin texture and tone improvement can be noticed, with a notable reduction in redness and pigmentation.

4-6 weeks

By now, the skin has unveiled its optimal results - a brighter, even-toned complexion that's touchably soft.

What to expect during broadband light therapy recovery

You may notice some redness and mild swelling for up to 24 hours. To optimize healing, avoid direct sunlight and apply any recommended post-treatment products provided by your clinician.

Over the next few days, you may experience slight peeling or discomfort (similar to a sunburn) and darkening pigmentation. Keep your skin moisturized and continue to protect it from sun exposure.

Rarely, more significant side effects can occur, such as prolonged redness, blistering or changes in pigmentation. Contact your clinician if you notice any unusual skin reactions.

Will I Need to Maintain My Results?

For most, BBL's transformative results can last several months to a year. However, longevity largely depends on factors like your skin type, lifestyle, and the extent of initial skin damage. Regular sun protection and a diligent skincare routine can extend the radiance. Many professionals recommend maintenance sessions to keep the skin consistently rejuvenated and to combat the normal wear-and-tear our skin undergoes.

Typically, these touch-up treatments are advised every few months. Scheduling periodic treatments not only helps maintain the achieved clarity but can also enhance the overall longevity of the results.
