Most of us have faced acne at some point in our lives. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, up to 50 million Americans are affected by acne annually, and it's not just a problem for teenagers and young adults. Acne can be challenging to treat despite being such a common condition.

If acne is severe or prolonged, it can lead to scarring, which can have long-lasting effects on your appearance and confidence. Acne scars can take many different forms that act as permanent reminders of breakouts past.

VITAHL Medical Aesthetics can help. At our medical spa in College Grove, TN, we offer clinically proven treatments to manage acne and improve the appearance of acne scars. Start your journey to a clear, healthy complexion today.

Causes

Acne can be caused by many different factors, including excess sebum (oil) production, clogged hair follicles and bacteria. Hormonal changes, taking certain medications and your genetics can also contribute to breakouts.

Acne scars form when the skin's healing process is disrupted. If your acne lesions are severe or you pick at them, your skin's collagen and elastin fibers can be damaged. As your skin attempts to repair itself, it may produce too much or too little collagen, resulting in scars that are either raised or depressed.

Symptoms

There are many types of acne lesions, including whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Acne can also cause redness, swelling and pain in the affected areas. The lesions can appear anywhere but are most common on your face, neck, chest, back and shoulders.

Acne scars can appear as depressed (atrophic) scars, such as ice pick, boxcar and rolling scars, or raised (hypertrophic) scars. They can also manifest as discoloration, known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), which take the form of dark spots on the skin. Acne scars can vary in size, depth, and color, and may be localized or widespread on the affected areas.

Acne & Acne Scarring Treatment Options

We offer a range of treatments that can be customized to address your concerns while taking into account your individual skin sensitivities and preferences. Our goal is to provide effective acne and scarring solutions that are well-tolerated and deliver the best possible outcomes for every patient.

SkinPen Microneedling

SkinPen Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that stimulates collagen production and skin renewal. By creating micro-injuries in the skin, microneedling triggers a healing process that reduces the appearance of acne scars, minimizes pigmentation and improves overall skin texture.

Clients can expect a gradual improvement in their skin's texture and tone with minimal downtime. The SkinPen is suitable for various skin types and the treatment can be tailored according to your needs.

Secret RF Microneedling

Secret RF Microneedling is an advanced treatment that combines the benefits of microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy. The RF energy heats the underlying skin tissues, stimulating collagen remodeling and skin tightening.

Secret RF Microneedling is particularly effective for treating stubborn acne scars, including depressed and raised scars, resulting in smoother, more even-looking skin. Patients typically see a noticeable reduction in acne scars after a series of treatments.

Moxi

Moxi is a gentle, nonablative laser treatment that reduces the appearance of acne scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Moxi is gentle enough to be used on all skin types and has minimal downtime.

Patients can expect to see a gradual improvement over a series of treatments, preferably scheduled monthly, with maximum benefits generally seen after three to five sessions.

Facials

VITAHL Medical Aesthetics offers a range of professional facials that can address the concerns of acne-prone skin, including a Teen Facial. Acne facials typically include deep cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and the application of calming, anti-inflammatory products.

Regular facials can help control your breakouts, unblock pores and give you a healthy glow. Many patients find monthly facials to be a beneficial addition to their skincare regimen.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a noninvasive treatment option for exfoliating the top layer of your skin, unclogging your pores and reducing inflammation. We offer chemical peels with different strengths and ingredients to suit each patient's unique needs. Our experienced clinicians will select the most appropriate peel for your acne severity and skin type, ensuring optimal results with minimal irritation.

Patients often notice brighter, smoother, clearer skin after a series of peels. We will discuss optimal treatment frequency during your consultation.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used to address depressed acne scars by strategically filling in and smoothing out the indentations, creating a more even skin surface. Patients are often amazed at the instant change in the appearance of their acne scars after this treatment.

Most fillers last six to 18 months, depending on which product is used. Biostimulators can last up to two years. Both types of injectable can be combined with other acne treatments for comprehensive skin rejuvenation.
